Mono cards in LK1000 for Activ Keilidhs.. Advice requested

Hello Linn friends
I have for a long time wanted to go Activ with my Keilidhs.
Due to financial restraints this has proved to be a long process but think im there....
Had looked at the option of Bi Amp LK100's so using a well known auction site I set about purchasing the odd box here and there.

Them last week I Managed to pick up a reasonable LK100......along with a set of mono cards.

Woo hoo I thought, got all the bits to convert to Active.

Wrong!!!! Checking in the loft, I discovered a box with some more cards in…. and another box….and another.

Turns out I have 3x amps…..and 5 sets of mono cards, plus a stereo card for good measure.
What a total tool I am!.

So the question is this:-

bi amp or tri amp??
Which cards to use?? Got 4x bass, 4x treb, and 2x mid.
Plus a stereo treb for good measure! ( thats used if im correct in an LK85?)

Any other folks gone tri amp?? Is it noticably better than bi Amp?

Majik 109

I am looking to set up a second system in my house, either as a TV system or in a spare room which will be quite small. Ideally I'd like to look at Majik 109's but having read the forums it appears that they are quite bass light. I am not yet sure which components I will use and am considering another MDSM if it's in another room or a sneaky DSM if it's a telly system.

I may also go for non-Linn speakers - not decided yet.

My question is whether anyone has experienced the 109's with non-Linn sources? It will be very much a second system and I may look at some of the Marantz separates to pair them with. These have tone controls and I am just curious as to whether these are likely to address the alleged bass deficiencies in the 109's or simply make them sound artificial?

A further question is, if I make the 109's Aktiv with an MDSM would I also be able to use them with my existing MDSM (my main system) which is already Aktiv with Majik 140's if I ever chose to?

As I said, I am not dead set on Linn/non Linn at the moment even though to be 'all Linn' would be nice.

Unidisc SC, any hope of repair?

I have had some hi-fi for ages, but the lifespan of some components is getting fairly short obsoleted by technology. My AMS/kivor whilst still working is probably considered old kit and has been eclipsed by the DS's, but now my Unidisc SC will now no longer read DVDs - reads CDs fine.

Having become a Dad money the hi-fi budget has drastically reduced, but buoyed by reports of sucesses replacing the laser I didn't baulk too much at replacing the laser unit (not the mech).

The laser arrived and after removing the solder blob for static protection I proceeded to fit without too much difficulty - only on switch-on to be left with exactly the same condition as before - reads CDs, won't read DVDs. Is there anything further I can do? The firmware is the latest release I believe, I can't really afford to get it serviced especially as it's almost throwing good money at an obsolete product now I'm not really buying CDs anymore (all ripped to NAS) but I do still want to play DVDs.

Also, the fan isn't running on the bench, it's not supposed to start from cold right?

KRDS/1 on eBay

Just noticed a listing for what is claimed to be a KRDS1 on that well known auction site, but the dates offered in the description would suggest that it is in fact a /0

The seller claims that Linn have confirmed it as a /1 version, which if true is a little worrying.

Maybe I have simply tied myself in knots with the seller's description, ( easily done now that I am approaching coffin dodger status Rolleyes )

Wouldn't want a buyer or the seller to fall foul of inaccurate info, especially if the manufacturer is indeed the source.

Dealer shoot out

Whilst unfair, would it not be interesting to have all dealers to submit their best set up lp12 for a blind testing session. Dealers would be kept secret with regards to what deck is theirs, but we would know those dealers who were confident enough to submit. Obviously parameters like cost, linn or 3rd party etc. I agree it is unlikely to happen. Just thought it would be something to ponder.

DS Streaming problems

I am having a problem streaming radio stations from tunein on my Linn DS player. It seems that if I try to play a station that is streaming at less than 128kbps, the station will stop playing after a while. Any one else having these issues?

Dear all,


I'm looking to buy some black Linn K40 cable but in nearly every photograph I have seen it appears to have a slight green tint? Can anybody confirm whether this is true/false? Is it even noticeable in normal circumstances.

I have recently acquired a Linn Classic K. and on setting it up I cant get any audio output to the speakers, headphones are perfect, all connections seem ok, but no response from speakers. Has any one hade this problem ?

Chorus HD for Akurate DS

Hi,

I can't see that this has been posted elsewhere - but is it possible to load or transfer the chorus HD app onto a different I-pad?
I loaded it onto my wife's ipad about a year ago to use with a new Akurate Ds as it seemsed better than Kinsky and it recommended by the hi-fi dealer (Cymbiosis,Leicester). To save domestic bliss, as she was always borrowing "my remote control" I bought another i-pad mini for this purpose - but don't really think i should have to pay to get another app.
I have e-mailed the chorus company/developers(?) but no response.
Any ideas folks - small money, I know, but just seems counter-intuitive
I am also not a computer whizz-kid(!)

I have just bought a pair of Akurate 212. I have the filters for aktive but i am not sure about how to...at the rear panel of the speakers. Any help please?

Klimax DSM and 350' acting weird..

My 350' are randomly powering up, then powering down after around 45sec while the Exacq DSM has the audible click on each event but does not seem to switch on.

All are in standby mode when this occurs, anyone else had this?

Speaker select option in Konfig has disappeared

oh.. Not that it matters as I don't use Space Optimization yet, but I noticed when I installed my new windows PC at the weekend, and downloaded Konfig from the Linn website, the select speaker option has gone. Strange... Any ideas ?

Speaker Cable to go Aktiv with 109's

I’m looking for a neat solution for tri-wiring my Linn Majik 109 speakers ... I’m going active; or rather Aktiv! Wink

My current cable (running passive) is Van Damme Blue Series 2.5mm which I’m pleased with (and is amazing value for money), and they offer a 6 core cable in their Black range;

linn karin preamp problem

Please help!!

I have a problem with my Linn Karin. Sometimes I hear a loud thundering sound through the speaker. after a few second, it disappears and then comes back. I think the problem with the preamp cause I tried a different preamp and this thundering sound does not happen. This has been now happening for about 3 months.

My preamp was last serviced 2005. At this time the power supply and motherboard were replaced. I have a slimline power supply.

Has anybody else had this issue? How did you do to resolve it?

DS VS DSM

Hi...

May i know what is the difference between DS and DSM. I'm aware about HDMI option connection on DSM and both of them work as a pre-amp and need to be connected to power amp (correct me if i'm wrong)

My Question: Can Klimax Re-new DS connected to turntable ?

I have a DS-I in one room, fully integrated with the home NAS and working well. In the office, I have an old Majik with a couple of Keilidh's which are no longer "allowed" in the family room. So, I want to play music from the DS through the Majik and I am proposing to use the line out from the DS connected via a 40 foot audio to CAT-5 to audio connection to one of the Tape inputs on the Majik.

My question is whether this will work well and provide an excellent source to the Majik?

The alternative is to run 40 foot speaker cables from the Rotel Power Amp (that is hooked to the DS) to the Keilidh's and have a speaker switch so I can switch the Keilids between the DS-I and the Majik.

I think my best option is the audio level signal between the two amplifiers but would like a second opinion.

Wakonda MC/MM Switch

I'm hoping to add a turntable to my set up soon, and currently have a Wakonda pre amp with MC phono stage. I have seen some vague things on the web about a switch inside the Wakonda allowing you to change between MM and MC phono stage.

Do all Wakonda's have this switch?

Is it something the user can just open up the box and flick it over, or is it a little more complicated than that?

I'd love to get an MC cartridge, but budget constraints may mean starting with MM then changing to MC later, if I feel the need.
