Fun - Win 10 VM on Qnap = Kazoo on Linux & Kinsky Desktop on iPad

Hi

This post is more just for fun, but that said, I'm currently listening to my system (and controlling it) from my Linux laptop; using it to drive Kazoo (control point) which is actually running on a Windows 10 (preview) virtual machine, which is running on my Qnap.

Above shows Windows 10 main screen running in a browser on an iPad. As you can see, I allocated 2 CPU cores and 4 GB of RAM to the VM (just to see how it all goes with that sort of allocation).

Above shows Kazoo running on the Qnap and controllable in a browser (Firefox) running on my Linux Mint laptop; all functioning and seems to be very stable. Cool thing is that (obviously, when you think about where Kazoo is running) you can close that browser, then access the same web page on the iPad's browser (and Kazoo is exactly as it was on the Linux box; same albums showing).

Just for fun, the above shows Windows version of Kinsky Desktop being controlled in a browser on an iPad (works, but you have to use the scroll bar as the touch screen scroll isn't functional via the browser; I will have to think more about that but I'll first need more coffee).

Other experiments...

I've also imported a Windows 7 machine (created in Virtualbox and exported as an .ova file). I set that up as a single CPU core with 4 GB RAM and it looked like it would be fine, but MS want £109 to register it (not paying that just to play with it; I'll keep my eyes open and try obtaining a key from a skipped Win 7 PC).

I'll import an XP machine and lock it all down (I'll set that up as a single core with 2 GB; that's loads for XP) so that I can run Kinsky Desktop on that (and thus control the system from a Linux laptop). I'll then have enough resources to simultaneously run another VM (also single core and 2GB) which I plan to be Linux Kali (with GNU radio driving a software defined radio horsed into the Qnap's USB port) as I want to see how that all bolts together (for a future project).

Bri Smile

NB I bought 2 x 4 GB of Kinskston RAM to upgrade the Qnap from 2 GB (as the official Qnap memory modules are eye-wateringly expensive).
