Songcast Low Volume

I'm using LINN Songcast software on my Windows computer to cast music/video from my computer to my Majik DSM/2 —all works well, except the volume isn't very loud.

How can I increase the volume?

I've used LINN Konfig software to set Volume Offset for other sources (i.e. Phono etc), but there doesn't appear to be option to set this for the Songcast source.

The volume on the computer is at maximum.

windows 10 update

Windows 10 update - pain in the proverbial. Since this I now have a new disk partition that it keeps telling me is full and I should clear some space. Really can't imagine how dumb they are to allow this to go live. There are various threads about it and I now have to find out how to get rid of the problem. At first glance it seems less than obvious and I would hope they release an update that fixes it but who knows?

Anyone else do the update yet?

L-Shaped Room SO

Hi, all.

I'm about to try SO for the first time, and I have an idea about how to set it up. I'd appreciate thoughts on whether my idea makes sense.

The room is L-shaped. The short arm of the L is wider than the long arm. The speakers are located on the short arm and are slightly further apart than the width of the long arm. The listening area is on the long arm but not very far back from the width of the short arm.

My idea is to enter in SO the full length of the short arm as the width of the room and the average of the depths in the different parts of the room (i.e., (short arm width + long arm length) / 2)) as the depth of the room. These measurements will convey the approximate floor area.

In case it matters, here's more information about the room: It's in a basement. The floor is linoleum on concrete. The floor from the speakers to behind the listening area is covered in wool rugs. There are three casement windows and a stairway up to the 1st floor off the short leg of the L . Total area is about 275 sq ft, and ceiling is about 7.5 ft high. There's a fair amount of furniture and lots of bookshelves, as well as the speakers and the racks for the stereo. There are also wooden baffles as room treatment in the corners and on the side walls.

Is there a better way to get started?

Dear Linn members :-)

I used to use old Mac Mini (as a digital saurce) to listen to music in NAS (Synology 218+).
It was satisfactory in terms of sound quality, but it is somewhat uncomfortable.

I considered purchasing a Linn network player, but the new product did not fit my budget.
Meanwhile, I found 2nd handed Linn Sneaky DS nearby local audio shop.

I know that Sneaky DS is an old product,
but I am considering purchasing it in anticipation that
I will still be able to listen to good music at bargain prices.

In fact, I'm worried about software support rather than sound quality.
I know that the Roon has been updated to 1.5 recently,
so I can play the Roon in the Linn DS products,
but there is no mention in the Sneaky DS whether I can play Roon.

I know Sneaky DS is an outdated product,
but does the software (like Davaar? from Linn) still support Sneaky DS?

Can I play Roon on Sneaky DS?
Is Sneaky DS still useful for playing high-res music files (24/192) on my NAS?

Akurate DSM hangs

Two days ago I got Katalyst installed in my Exaktbox 10 by my dealer. When setting it up in Konfig there was a Davaar upgrade available for the Akurate DSM Mk2, which I installed.

Problem now is that it stops playing after a number of songs, can be one can be 20. Seems to be between tracks. But it not only stops, it hangs more or less completely and shows an X on the right side of the display. Remote does not work and sometimes not even the stby button on the DSM either. Then it is only power cycling left, which cures it.

It seems to be related to playing from my server (minimserver on Raspberry PI) but I am not sure. Watching TV (toslink) for a few hours is uninterrupted.

My suspicion is that it is related to the DSM rather than the Katalyst upgrade. Are there any known bugs with Davaar 63? I am considering reverting to Davaar 62 to see if it helps.

I did the 10s push on stdby to send logs to Linn, not sure if it worked.

Apart from this issue the upgrade is wonderful!

Any ideas?

Lesson learned: never do two upgrades at once.

odd question re Twonky on QNAP

Hi - Have had QNAPs for ages but have always used Minimserver. I used to 'stop the Twonky server and that was fine. They stopped offering Twonky a while back now but I have noticed that it's always running according to my PC. It doesn't show up in the app window and so I can't control it from there. I have tried the device page and that shows up but for love nor money I can't find a stop option. I can do everything else but stop it.

Anyone have the same and more importantly do you know how I can safely stop it?

Upgrade advice

Hey guys

My current setup:

Rega Planar 3
Akurate Exakt DSM
Majik Exaktbox
Majik 140s with upgraded stands.

Most of my listening is digital so doesn’t make sense for me to LP12.

What’s the next move? Could I add a Akurate 4200 and use the 200 amps to power the tweeter/super tweeter and the 100s in the exaktbox to do everything else?

Can you only use some of the amps in the exaktbox?

A6200 is it possible with Linn's new machinery?

For me as an old 3-way speaker guy, changing from C6100 to A6200 sounds like an attractive option. So what's in the way of it? Most likely the power consumption, asking too much from the standard PSU. But with Linn's new machinery, and smaller components, circuit boards can be build much smaller, so we read. Think of a bi-turbo, ehem, sorry, a double mono layout with one standard PSU per side. Would such an A6200 be posible space-wise? I have no clue, but Linn might have.
Any wisdom of the crowd?

Klout Repair in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Area

Its hard for me to imagine that as big of a metropolitan area I live in, that I cannot locate a repair shop for my Klout Amps. They sat in a repair shop with someone who had 25+ years of repair experience nine months and he couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. I do wonder how much effort he made and appearing quite busy and may have been repairing equipment he was more familiar with, took less time and was more profitable. Can't blame him for making the most money with his time. Then I read on these forums about others getting them repaired, recapped and in some ways upgraded. Their symptoms seem similar to others that I read so I am confident that they are repairable.

I have already had someone in Austin suggested. I am being a bit stubborn about wanting them repaired locally and have other equipment I would like to get repaired as well. Looking for that repair place that I can take my equipment to for years to come and know that I'll pick it up running like it was new or as close as possible.

Does anyone know someone in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area that they would recommend for the repair?

SonicTransporter i5 vs Synology DS918+ vs Mac Mini

I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question, so let me know if it belongs elsewhere.
I’m currently running Minimserver on my Synology 412+ as my main music server feeding my DS players. I’m also trying Roon Server, which I’m running on my MacBook since the Synology doesn’t have the horsepower, but if I stay with Roon this isn’t a good solution, since it’s only connected via Wi-Fi and isn’t always on. The options I’m considering are to continue to use the 412+ and add a Small Green Computer SonicTransporter i5, or add a Mac mini running headless, or replace the 412+ with a Synology 912+ with 8gb ram and 2x256 SSD drives (along with the 4 x 3 Tb storage drives from my current NAS). I’m leaning towards the one box solution, the 918+, but are there any trade offs in sound quality? Any thoughts?

Kazoo timeline sticky and sometimes dead

On both Qobuz and my own NAS, the timeline on Kazoo (this on both iPad and iPhone) tends to jump in about three second increments; except often it just sticks, and the only cure seems to be to come out of the app and relaunch it. But the problem may recur a few seconds later.

This has gone on, on and off, ever since I first started using Kazoo almost a year ago. There are periods when it works fine, with a nice smooth second by second progression on the timeline, but lately it’s been dreadful. My network setup hasn’t changed during this time, it’s an Apple Extreme router attached to a Virgin box used purely as a modem. I’m using a Katalyst Akurate DSM - no real change since it got Katalysed, the problem seems to be with the Kazoo App. It does not happen with the Qobuz App.

Any suggestions anyone?

DSM HDMI 2.1 upgrade ?

Not having found anything suitable, I feel the need to start a new thread on the above topic.

(quoting my own post on another thread Tongue):
does anybody know if the HDMI upgrade will be available as HDMI 2.1 instead of 2.0 anytime soon, or would this just require a softwareupdate ?
Obviously, this will triple the transfer rate (14,4 GBit/s to ~ 43 GBit/s) and indeed make it a future-proof upgrade.
As Full-HD is common nowadays, 4K - if not 8K - will likely become standard in the very near future, so in my opinion LINN would do good to push things if they want customers to stay up-to-date.

Maybe somebody could come up with some insight, gladly some kind LINN-developer ?

podcasts - how do 'you' do them?

hi - probably a silly question but I have always played them on the PC or a tablet but for a variety of reasons I would prefer to be able to play them via the Linn if possible. I just wondered how everyone else plays them or is there a way to open a podcast on the linn?

I guess I could songcast it to the Linn but the PC is in a different room to where I want to listen and it would be a lot easier if I could do it another way but without tieing up a tablet etc other than for stop start and choose.

I thought there might be a way of entering a url for the Linn to play but I can't see anything obvious for that unless I create an m3u playlist each time which seems a little crazy. I had never thought about it before but it's surprising there isn't a url option isn't it? Or is that a security issue?

Thanks - especially if I am being dumb.

P.S> I did look at Tunein and thought that was going to help but their podcasts seem to be in a bit of a mess TBH unless there is a way for me to subscribe and navigate. (part of the issue is I like to go back through the catalogue not just listen to the latest. I should say that I have used alexa and that is OK for getting the latest but navigation to older ones seems cludgy at best.

What does it mean.... I have an “X” on my display in lower right side. Kazoo not responding, just keeps searching for room.
My wifi is on and connected.
My config screen on Mac doesn’t show my Majik dsm or any devices.

We'd all remember the post-9/11 US radio controversy where radio networks refused to play certain content.

(tl;dr - Spotify under pressure to block certain musicians, including Enimem and The Eagles)

When I first heard of online streaming - and the concept of your music collection being 'virtual' rather than on physical media - I got worried about the future ability for companies to revoke your access to your content, for whatever reason. Now we're seeing content being blocked for political reasons.

Is this the thin end of the wedge for this sort of thing? This is only Spotify, but imagine this happening in future when your music collection is stored entirely in the cloud?

Lk100 up in smoke

Hello hope Im in the right place I recently bought a Ssecond LK100 amp from online I was hoping to mono block them using the 2 outputs from my pre amp 1 amp in output 1 one amp in output 2 then I biamped them on each amp one amp per channelproblem was first day sounded amazing second day the amp Id bought went up in smoke black carbon was spat all over case near heat sink. I take it the main transistor are shot . it also took my good old speakers with it thier was Weeping and gnashing of teeth then I calmed down . Thing is where can I buy the components to repair Im In Aberdeen ,Scotland does anyone have any pointers on what I should replace and are the parts still available the board looks clear but the main transistors are visibly dead on replacing these is thier any sneaky wee things to be replaced to??? I would so much apreciate any help with this or even a repair shop? Thank you so much.
