I was considering an upgrade to my Oppo 95 to the 105, mainly for its ability to take a couple of HDMI sources that I'd like to use with surround sound.
Because I'm so impressed with the sound on the 95, and there are mixed reviews about the sound (some saying it's improved, some saying it's the same), I was curious to get the official word.
The official word is this: "The BDP-105 retains the BDP-95’s very detailed and accurate sound, and the performance measurements are almost identical to the BDP-95."
This is from this interview: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/trans...lu-ray-q-a with Nathaniel Plain, the Manager of Technical Services.
Now, I understand that somebody with his position can't make superlative announcements or over promise, but I thought that it was very telling wording, with the "almost identical". To me, that suggests that there have been sonic compromises with the amount of things they've tried to cram into this model. I'm not slagging it, I'm sure it's a great machine, and that its performance is astonishing, and I also haven't heard one myself, so this is purely on what he's saying ... but something doesn't sound right.
