I am noticing a huge increase in the number of pop-up ads on the internet and annoying phone calls at home. Am I alone?
If I launch an app on my smart phone or an app on my iPad, I can get 2 or 3 ads showing up, before I can get to the app.
Try to look up a news story from an online newspaper or TV site, or search for something on the internet, sometimes I have to wait for the pop-up ad to play for 10 seconds or even 30 seconds before I can dismiss it, if I can even find a way to disarm it..
Then there are the ads that do not have any visible way to get rid of them. I try clicking in all the corners and end up launching the ad, exactly the opposite of what I am trying to do.![Rolleyes]( "Rolleyes")
In Canada, we have a Government website where you can enter your phone numbers for your home, cell phone and business and register for a "Do Not Call" List. It appears that by registering your numbers, you end up getting more calls, as this appears to be a suckers list and the advertisers now know about you?
Many people I know are getting phone calls from what appears to be a local phone number, but is just another scam or promotion from a call centre on the other side of the world or based in the US, usually out of Florida.
And what about all those fake phone surveys?
"I am looking for someone between the ages of 16 and 18 that has an opinion on seashell harvesting in the Solomon islands" Yes, now they know there is someone at home and then the credit card companies and "You have won 20,000 air miles, just press 1 to claim your prize" calls start.
ARRRRRGGGG.
I would purchase an app that bombards the companies' website that sends these ads with a million ads on their servers that can only be removed one by one manually or an app that jams the phone lines at the call centres for 24 hours, and plays a message back to them if they try using their phones.
"We are sorry, but your phone service is out of order for at least 24 hours, as the activities you are engaged in are extremely annoying and illegal"![Cool]( "Cool")
