As reported on the BBC news website here, there is a bug in BASH which will allow a hacker to take over the machine.
BASH which stands for "Bourne Again SHell" is a component in many Apple and Linux based systems. The problem reportedly affects more than 500m computers and servers. I believe that many NAS drives also contain this component.
It is suggested that those affected should patch their machines ASAP, but a brief search revealed nothing for QNAP (which I know runs BASH).
I'm not computer literate enough to make furtehr comment - I wonder if Briain is watching?
