Can't find the "100 ways to thread" but this is funny.

Two LP12's owned by one person with both having some prior bad advice. The first came in a week ago and has just been finished. This is the second.
Both decks in cherrywood and fastidiously looked after with Lingo/Linto and very late "white dot" Ekos 2 arms.

The first (main LP12) had a full rebuild with Radikal/Urika, Kore and new Linn Oak plinth and platter to go with his low wear Akiva.

This second deck is being rebuilt keeping the Lingo and Linto but will also have Kore with his worn Klyde being replaced by a Dynavecto DVXX2 MK2 and Trampolinn, as well as another new Linn oak plinth and platter.

Both decks still have very low wear Cirkus bearings and the second will look like a brand new LP12 as did the first when finished and tested.

The customer is from the West Country and was recommended to me by an existing client who used to own a Linn /Naim dealership in London. Unfortunately he had in the past been given advice and services to have both LP12's modified as seen. Badly conceived and botched "damping" consisting of scissor cut sticky bitumen pads and foam sleeves for the main bearing and motor. On top of this some effort to remove the motor bearing cap leaving the motor spindle freedom to float up and down which is why the cap is glued on to prevent this. Both decks had hardly any oil and I think the fitter had forgotten to replenish. Also note the main bearing sleeve allows the bearing to touch the cross-brace which shorts out the suspension to a degree even though it's foam rubber. He also showed me some small round rubber discs which were recommended to be stuck on to the edge of the inner platter to act as the support interface to the outer platter. He didn't use them and if he had it could have meant having to replace the whole bearing assembly's on both decks at a cost of another £800.00.

Needless to say this will all be removed and the motor replaced as was done with the first. Luckily I can bin the sub-chassis and cross-brace but getting the pad of the top plate is difficult and leaves a sticky residue.

This second deck will probably stay the same for the foreseeable future and
future funds spent on a Keel, Ekos SE and Kandid on the main LP12.

This damping is not needed and kills the sound and the tune.

Regards.
