Hi...
New forum member here and not an audiophile, so bear with me. We are in the downsizing phase of our lives moving from a very large rural house to a condominium in San Francisco. Currently our speakers are 20+ years old, main room KEF 103/4 floor standing and some Linn speakers in the bedroom and billards room. No HT sound currently, just stereo
The KEFs are too big for our new place (according to my wife) and being in a multi-unit building, volumes will be low to moderate.
So... Currently I have Tukans (circa mid-90s) and Sekrit On-Walls (same vintage, not the current in-wall models). I'm thinking of wall mounting the Tukans with Linn Brakits (which I have) as Fronts and mounting the Sekrits as Rears with Brakits. Our building terms and conditions will not allow the Sekrits to be embedded in the wall (its a common wall with our neighbors).
Its possible to embed the Sekrits as fronts (as this is not a common wall) which would be more visually aesthetic and use the Tukans as rears. Would I be giving up much sonically should we go this route?
Electronics are a simple Denon AVR (1713).
Usage will be TV, audio, Blu-ray
So my questions are:
Are these a good choice for fronts/backs?
What would be a compatible wall mount center speaker? (I'd like it to be reasonable physically small, with primary purpose to pick up clarity on video spoken word)
If we decide to go with a sub-woofer (not at all a fan of booming low end) is there a recommended speaker? What will I miss if I don't install?
I like our Linn speakers, but if there is a better choice I am open to other vendors
Room is 21.5ft x 14.2ft and open on one end to the downstairs living area. Configuration is viewing will be across the 14.2ft span. TV is currently 50in (though I am hope to work this up to 60in at some time). Given that and the wall mounts, is there a suggested spacing for the fronts and backs?
Apologies for the dissertation, but wanted to get everything relevant down.
Thanks...
