I have a 1999 or so Kairn. I rarely turn it off and when I did, I noticed that all the memory functions were lost. I contacted my local Linn dealer here in Canada regarding replacing the battery however, he is not able/willing to work on it and advised me to contact the Linn Helpline for assistance. What he is familiar with is the current stuff from the last 10 years or sothat he has sold Linn. I contacted the Helpline on Saturday, January 25. I know they are not open on weekends, but I still have not heard back.
I'm also concerned that a battery this age can leak inside the kairn and ruin it. As my dealer is not able to assist and perhaps even the Canadian distributor, I am at a loss at what to do. I have had this kairn as part of a fully triamped active linn system since new. I have contacted a reeseller of the mempac battery on ebay UK but they did not respond, probably because I am in Canada.
