Led Zeppelin Reissues - Some Observations

This is carried over from another thread I didn't want to hijack. It deals with the Mothership compilation and Song Remains the Same reissues on Rhino Vinyl in the USA. Maybe they came out in 2009....

Interesting Mud. I'm getting really frustrated with reissues in general maybe 50% are good 50% blow. Actually, I didn't pay much attention to the liner notes on Mothership and Song Remains the Same. Okay, I see where you are coming from if they were remastered by Page. I've had really mixed results with Rhino reissued vinyl (Sundazed is awful, think they are affiliated) and just assumed these were crappy pressings. IF the upcoming reissues of the Zep catalog are this bad, I guess I'll have to stick with buying the Classic Records reissues over time which are pretty great. I'm not about to drop $400+ for In Through the Out Door, that's nuts. One another note, I picked up the CD reissued box set from maybe 07/08, they are on Japanese SHM CDs. They are a little on the "hot" side but made quite nice rips. I picked the set up the set new on Ebay for $70 usd and gave them to a buddy after ripping; I've seen them up there occasionally for under $100 usd. Heck of a deal for the money and much better IMHO than the original CDs I had from the 80s. I've had mixed results with buying the original vinyl. I've picked up a couple of US Atlantic's (Rockefeller labelled) original pressings and the transfers were lousy. Anyway. I think Classic might be the right answer over time.
