Folks,
I know there are a few members with ATCs. I've been thinking about a speaker upgrade for a while now. I have a pair of Mission E83, which are not bad but I think my Renew DS deserves better.
Have been pondering going down the active studio monitor route as I know some pro audio products perform very well and are quite listenable at home.
Budget is £2K-£2.5K which is enough for Event Opals or (quite old) ATC SCM50A. I'm also interested in the passive SCM50 (K50) kit from Wilmslow Audio. This does not use the latest Super Linear ATC bass and midrange drivers, but the 3rd harmonic is still very low looking at ATC's graphs - a bit better than Event measured the Opals. I guess the passive crossovers will add some distortion and from what I've read, require a decent power amp to drive - but I have a dual mono 2x500W.
Just wondering if anyone here has ever compared active and passive ATCs and the older and newer SL drivers?
