Re-Mastered

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the term "Re-Mastered" actually means when referring to a re-issue of an album.

I'm presuming that it means something has been re-created, but I'm not sure if that that's re-created is always the same thing, regardless of album, or if it can means multiple things have been done over.
