Any experience with Naim/Wiremold power strip

Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the Naim/Wiremold power strip. I have a Unidisk-SC and 5125 plugged directly into the wall with standard power cables. Is there any improvement to be had with a quality power strip? If not, what would be a good, reasonably priced power conditioner/distro block? Just trying to get the most out of these components.

Thanks

Travelling this week....Sad
But decided to treat myself to a pair of B&W P5's headphones Wink

So far so good, but I have an urge to listen to hear them fed properly, rather than compressed files from my IPad / iTunes music Sad
Suspect I'm in for a treat with a proper feed Cool

So, clearly it won't be simple, there's no 'hole' on the front of my KK, any ideas which 'hole' and no doubt what connections I will need ?

Thanks in advance as ever Smile

TiVo Remote

Recently set up my new (-ish) ADSM and have attempted on numerous occasions to get my Virgin Media TiVo remote to learn Linn IR commands without success.
Following the instructions leads to persistant failure, even teenager can't manage it.
Does anyone know the four digit code the remote will recognise...?

Bi Amping Focal JM Labs

Recently girded loans to replace my ageing Micromega system with an ADSM and A4200 combo. First few weeks listening were based on single wiring half of the amp (effectively an A2200) - All good.

Yesterday purchased some basic Atlas bi-wire cable and leapt into the unknown by removing the links on the back of the Electras and unleashing all four channels.
Whoah - what a difference. Bit like eating the same dinner you had yesterday evening once again, but this time prepared by Marco Pierre White instead...

Clearly Linn are strong advocates of multi-amping , useful if you sell amp at up to £10k a pop, but many speaker manufacturers appear to be quite sniffy about the benefits of driving their own designs with multiple power amps.

Be interested in hearing forum members own experiences of bi amping non Linn speakers with Linn power amps, and perhaps some recommendations for quality standmounters that work well that way.

Thx

Tukan crossover upgrade

I have a very well preserved pair of Tukans in cherry with the 3 bar tweeter. They are amazing speakers and I wanted to know, since they are from the late 90's whether I should change out the capacitors ? I want to continue to run them in passive mode as I have heard mixed reviews about the aktiv mode. Any DIY folks willing to help?

for my second LP12 I am trying to keep costs down as I have maxed the budget on every part.

I have not budgeted for a lid on this one, but if I don't have one will I be dusting forever?

Any thoughts?

If I was Linn, I would amalgamate the DS troubleshooting forum with the DS forum, call it DS and drop the DS troubleshooting forum.

If I was looking for a network streamer but was not computer savvy and had a look in the Linn forums to see what people were nattering about, the fact there is a whole section of the forum dedicated to DS troubleshooting would probably put me off buying one!

Great opening lyrics

We have famous opening quotes from written literature, ...

"Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York;"
Richard III

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens.

..., but not songs I've just noticed, as while driving home the radio started playing Steve Winwood's Higher Love:

"Think about it, there must be higher love.
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above.
Without it, life is a wasted time.
Look inside your heart, I'll look inside mine." Steve Winwood & Will Jennings

What other opening lyrics are considered great?

Fantastic record if anyone has it, although my other half hates it - she likes "dance" music, say no more.

My New Akubariks

Last year, I was hearing rumours of a new Linn speaker in the works, with built in aktiv amplification, in the Akurate Range. I was very interested in getting news on these, and kept searching for information. I even started a thread on what a good name would be for them, more than a year ago.

When the Akubariks were announced, I did a field trip to Seattle to hear them, and was favourably impressed. Now, trying to figure out how to buy them without as much impact on my savings account. Time for wheeling and dealing with my Linn dealer.

Checked with Philbo. My centre channel 112's and 109's will integrate well with the Akubariks in a surround set-up, as they are all voice matched.

On the table for trade in: Majik Isobariks, 2 Linn Majik 5100 power amps, 4 X 8 foot sections of terminated K400, Linn Silvers RCA and a full set of Aktiv cards for the Isobariks.

In addition, for sale, I had one full carbon Specialized Roubaix racing bike and a Trek stationary training stand for sale, Sidewinder power cords, Linn black interconnects and a number of other household items I could sell. Time to crunch the numbers and work out a deal.

The HiFi Gods were in my favour, the numbers looked good, and out comes the credit card. Arrrrgh, what have I done. The Miso's were sounding great. Had I lost my marbles?

Yesterday was the big day when I went to pick up my new Akubariks.

Allansgaard was very kind to go with me, in his vehicle, to help pick them up, deliver them to my home and set them up. He actually seemed as excited about them as I did. So we loaded them up carefully, and brought them up to my apartment. Boxes everywhere, old components and speakers scattered about.

Followed directions, installed the stands, moved them into position, plug in the new XLR connectors and power cords, remove the protective covers off the 3K array, and hold on, what's this. I ordered the 3K array in chrome, but mine were black. Allan and I are looking at them, and going, Hmmm, they look awesome in black, good move, carry on. These speakers are beautiful to look at.

Power switch turned on, red light still on, no sound. Quick programming change on the Classe SSP-800 from RCA connectors to XLR, and we are in business.

Right out of the box, they sounded really good, and would improve very quickly after that.

The first thing we noticed was that there were no room issues at all, the acoustics were perfectly set up for the room, with no bass nodes, in fact, no perceived issues with the room at all. Awesome!!! As my Misos were overly energetic in the bass, for my room set-up, this was a huge delight.

Speaker placement was easy as well. I placed them approximately the same position as the Misos, but with very little toe-in. Again, seamless integration, huge soundstage, very deep, and wide after a few hours of play. Akubariks were made for my apartment, using the default factory settings. Grand!!!

The bass is deep, tight, musical and detailed. The midrange is liquidy smooth, detailed, effortless. The highs are very good, and at this point, with little burn in time, I expect them to open up even more.

I have heard a lot of excellent speakers in the last few months, Criterion 110's, PMC IB1, Top of the Line Quads, Focal Utopias. The Akubariks are easily in the same league as any of them, and give a much better overall sound IMHO, as all of the above speakers were excellent in some areas and missing something in others. The Akubariks sound fantastic throughout the audio spectrum.

In short, these are stunningly great speakers, with seamless integration into my listening room, seamless sound quality from bass to highs. I am a happy camper!!!

My Linn sales guy will be over on Tuesday to integrate my Surround speakers with the Akubariks, Aktiv card swaps and the like

Pictures to be posted at a later time

Deleting saved playlists in kinsky

How do I do this?
Kinski on iPad seems to create and store as a playlist everything I listen to!
I have asked this before and got no answer. Usually here that means, "if you are stupid enough to ask this question, you won't understand the answer." Either a confirmation of this, or how I actually do it would be much appreciated!
(There's nothing in Kinsky instructions about deleting saved playlists.)

Installing Firmware via Konfig

$

Up until the recent versions of Konfig, it was very easy to change firmware versions via the advanced settings page - there was a browse button which told the software exactly which file to use and where it was located.

While I appreciate the cleaned up GUI of the new Konfig (4.10.12) this basic functionality has been removed.

When I enter a complete path to a zipped firmware file, I get the following result: Software Update Failed (Could not find C:\Users\Polaris Seven\Downloads\KlimaxDs_4.11.4.beta)

The file is exactly where it should be. What am I doing wrong? Any chance of bringing back the browse button?

Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending) firmware versions don't all sound the same and sometimes, the latest/greatest isn't all that. I'd like the flexibility to downgrade without having to reinstall an older version of Konfig.
